We’ve seen it everywhere; our Instagram feed, retail shops, on the runway - and it’s probably on your Pinterest board. The early 2000s is the latest fad in the fashion community. Why are we suddenly falling in love with the bold glitziness of this decade? The Y2K style, made popular in the 00s breaks many fashion boundaries. For example, the low rise jean and never-ending embellishments of the rhinestone. Being ‘tacky’ wasn’t seen as a bad thing. So maybe it’s the lack of rules that makes this decade in fashion loved by many. Here are four of my favorite trends that have come back!
You either love them or hate them. I love this classic silhouette. It creates a nostalgic look that we used to see on Destiny’s Child and Britney Spears. It’s sexy and sleek and can be styled in multiple ways. These jeans, paired with a cardigan crop top creates the illusion of a long torso. Add accessories like a cute mini bag to complete the look!
Brands like Juicy Couture and Von Dutch were very popular in the early 2000s. They were seen on every ‘It Girl’. Mini bags are cute and add a vintage vibe to a look. You can get them in all types of styles, from a baguette bag to a clear bag! Recently they have been popping up in retail shops and can be found almost anywhere - and you don’t have to break the bank to cop one of them. Adding this into your wardrobe is a great start if you are trying to implement this aesthetic into your life. Mini bags are a versatile accessory and can be styled in multiple ways; if you are going for a girly look, wear them with a mini skirt and a bodysuit. For a more 90s take, match them with baggy boyfriend jeans and a spaghetti strap top.
Waist chains. They are THE accessory to own. The chain screams flashy glamour and is enough to wrap up an outfit. As shown in the photo, it pairs well with denim. I am in love with this accessory and it is a staple in the Y2K aesthetic.
This velvet tracksuit emulates the whole 2000s style. It is effortless streetwear that you can wear every day. Juicy Couture is known for their tracksuits. You can find them in Urban Outfitters. I am in love with the boujie velvet look. Pair this with chunky jewelry and mini sunglasses to complete your outfit!
All in all the early 2000s is the most recent decade to have been renewed in the fashion cycle. We should be seeing even more of it seen in our everyday lives, and I 100% approve of this over the top glamour!
